Missed Packets: The Enemy of Your AUP

5:31 PM Reporter: fendhy
When it comes to defending the integrity and reputation of a corporation, one of the primary lines of defense will be your Acceptable Use Protocols (AUP). The diligence and attention you dedicate to your AUP, however, can be completely sidestepped by just one missed packet. So how can you remain vigilant, defend your AUP and enforce it without missing a packet?

Overcoming Human Error

Programs are only as strong as their programming. Whether you employ a software or hardware appliance for your network-filtering device; you will need to update it. There are virtually thousands of sites created weekly. Many of those sites are just one step ahead of the law and when you consider the measures they are willing to undertake, it is not inconceivable that they may be one step ahead of your filter.

The temptation to handle personal business while at work can be too great for some employees. Communication, for example, with relatives and friends while at work via Instant Messages or email are part of the corporate record just as any other business communication transaction that takes place. Employees may not be aware of the impact of their actions, but the responsible corporation should be.

Since it is possible for just a single typo to send an employee to a website of questionable intent, you have to compensate for human error. While the majority of your employees will abide by the AUP, making a typo is not about intent. If your filtering appliance is not capable of verifying the requested web site against an object list of questionable or acceptable sites – then your employee may find themselves staring at a site filled with pornography or worse, coping with an automatic download that implants questionable material or viruses onto your network.

Clogged Arteries of Communication

Software-based filters may have to run several checks and re-checks when they receive a website request. The checking and rechecking consumes valuable bandwidth and, depending on the number of employees trying to use the network at the same time, packets can get dropped or missed when the network arteries become clogged.

Unfortunately, the very nature of software checking requires the use of excessive bandwidth. If the network lines become too clogged, you may be faced with a network outage or failure. The latency caused by software operations is bad enough; however, the software failure can leave even more packets missed or skipped. Employees could find themselves staring at sites that violate their company's AUP.

To deal with these complications, a self-contained hardware-based filter can help your network avoid missed packets and maintain optimum throughput time. In particular, an Interent filtering appliance that employs Kernel-Level Filtering can give you the speed of pass by and the accuracy of pass through technologies. Such a system would have its own hardened and optimized OS so that latency and missed packets aren't a problem with which you must contend.

Hardware is Hardwired

A true hardware solution is far more accurate than software solutions that rely on heuristic-based filtering to do the job. First of all, a true hardware appliance is not limited by bandwidth. Requests are sent directly to the hardware device and filtering and reporting are all on-box.

Because all the action takes place on the hardware device, the end user is not limited by network capacity nor are they clogging the network up with repeated checks and cross checks.

Hardware filtering devices can also be updated daily and customized to a corporation's specific AUP standards. The daily updates allow corporations to compensate for the hundreds of new sites created daily that can't be as readily updated with software-based applications. Another important distinction would be to have critical security sites updated hourly. This would ensure maximum protection for your organization. A hardware-filtering device is the best defense for your AUP against objectionable content, IM, P2P and spyware.

Stop the Stupid Stuff' In Your Business

5:27 PM Reporter: fendhy
We are living in a world of change. Shift happens! Competition comes from all over the world, which means that many American businesses are in trouble.

Many decisions are being made that are contrary to both good business sense and building customer loyalty.

Most organizations' marketing is usually an exercise in figuring out what to do to get current or potential customers to spend more dollars with them.

I'm suggesting that instead of thinking about what to do, figure out what to stop doing. In other words, stop doing the "stupid stuff."

Not doing the stupid stuff means finding out what prevents customers from spending money with you and making sure that that action or reaction never happens again.

Here's an example of what I call "stupid stuff." Some airlines now want to charge customers who want to speak to a live agent.

Take, for example, the new Wheaties boxes. General Mills recently introduced Wheaties boxes with photos of the U.S. Olympic gold medalists. One was missing: Paul Hamm. Why?

This was General Mills' response to my inquiry:

"Selecting a Wheaties Champion has never been an easy task, especially when we have witnessed so many outstanding performances by so many championship athletes. But it simply isn't possible to honor every champion on the Wheaties box."

So they leave off the first U.S. man to win the Olympics all-around gymnastics championship in one of the sport's greatest comebacks? His return from a disastrous fall to a near-perfect high-bar routine won near-universal praise and, for most of us, defined the word "champion."

But there was controversy. As most of you know, a South Korean gymnast claimed that a scoring error cost him the gold and appealed to the Court of Arbitration for sport. The court recently ruled that Hamm can keep the gold medal.

Even though the medal was disputed, it was not because of anything Hamm did or did not do. Still, General Mills decided to do the "safe" thing. But by being safe and leaving out Hamm, Wheaties is alienating the millions of customers who see him not as controversial, but as a hero, and losing customers in the process. Now that's "stupid stuff."
That's stupid stuff in two ways. First, they've chosen to penalize customers who want to continue getting what they've always gotten - one-on-one attention. Worse, they've done it by saying they will charge more for this previously standard level of service. How many customers will they lose because of this decision? I know of at least one.

There are more subtle, but no less damaging, stupid things businesses need to stop doing.

So start stopping! Stop saying "No" and start using the word "Yes." Stop charging for services that most of us think are free.

Find out what exasperates, discourages, hassles or confuses your customers and stop it.

How To Recognize Ebay Scams

5:23 PM Reporter: fendhy
Shopping and selling on eBay can be one of the most rewarding experiences on the Internet. However you need to be careful of scam artists who will try to take advantage of you through various types of fraud. If you do get scammed on eBay there are ways you can get your money back. However, it is very difficult to ever catch the fraud artist and it is a lot simpler if you can recognize and avoid frauds from the beginning.

One of the scams that are very common today is fake e-mails that appear to originate from eBay or PayPal or even your bank. Keep in mind that anybody can spoof any e-mail address and send an e-mail that appears to be from somebody else. It is even possible to spoof an e-mail coming from the president of the United States. So when you see any e-mail in your inbox that comes from eBay or PayPal and asks you to log in to confirm your password the chances are that this is a scam. E-mails that you receive of this type will have eBay letterheads or PayPal letterheads and will direct you to a link that appears to be eBay or PayPal. However, if you look closely at the bottom of your browser you'll generally see that the domain these links point to is not actually an eBay or PayPal domain. It just looks like eBay's web site, but it is actually a scam site asking you to confirm your password. Once you put in your username and password the fraud artist has it. One of the more popular tactics being used right now is to send a fake payment notification from PayPal suggesting that you have paid for something which you did not buy. The e-mail and includes a link right in the center that says "dispute this charge", and once you click on that link you are taken to a page that looks like PayPal but is actually a fraudulent web site designed to get you to enter your username and password.
Whether you are buying or selling items is a good idea to stick with PayPal. If you are selling items it is a good idea to only except PayPal as a payment option. The last thing you need is to get a bad check, or have your buyer dispute his credit card charge. If you have fulfilled your end of the seller's bargain, then all you'll need to do is prove that to PayPal and eBay without involving a third-party. Generally speaking, if a buyer is unhappy with a product that you sold and does not consider the product to be in the condition advertised, then you should demand that the product be returned before you issue a refund.

In order to sell on eBay effectively you need to learn how to use reserve pricing. One of the most common schemes on eBay is for someone using multiple accounts to place a low bid and a high bid simultaneously under different aliases. This ties up your auction at the high bid price and allows of the fraud to be carried out when the high bid buyer declines to pay and you are confronted with a low second bid. This scam is effective because the seller feels obligated to sell the item to the second-highest bidder once the auction has fallen through with the top bidder. Placing a reserve is essential to avoid this kind of scam so be sure to set a reserve price at the point where you would not sell the product for any less.
One of the easiest ways to protect yourself on eBay is to use PayPal for all transactions. PayPal is a wholly-owned subsidiary of eBay, and so transactions that are paid for via PayPal can be easily disputed. Since it is in eBay's interest to maintain a secure shopping environment they are generally very quick to resolve disputes that originate by PayPal. If you buy an item and are not satisfied with it and feel like the seller did not deliver what he promised, it is far easier to dispute that transaction fee with PayPal because eBay can reverse the funds themselves. If you purchased by money order or credit card or some other payment method, eBay does not have the opportunity to reverse charges without going through a third-party.

It is worthwhile to note right on your auction page that you reserve the right to back out of selling an item if you suspect fraud. While it is easy to get scammed as a buyer it is even easier to get scammed as a seller. Sellers generally have more experience and can recognize these scams, but you should be aware of the pitfalls of selling upfront before you start selling items on eBay.

EBay is a very safe and secure way to shop if you use it wisely and remain aware of how fraud occurs. It is important to always report suspicious activity directly to the eBay or PayPal. Since they have a vested interest in assuring that reliable transactions occur without fraud you can be sure that they will do their best to prevent illegal fraudulent activity.

Tips on Buying a Timeshare Resale

5:21 PM Reporter: fendhy
Have you ever bought an inexpensive car only to find that upkeep and dissatisfaction made it more expensive than if you had just bought a better one in the first place? The same is true in timeshares. The "satisfaction quotient" of a timeshare will actually be determined by your buying the right one in the first place. This is true whether buying a developer's timeshare or a resale. The only difference is that you will buy the resale for one third to one half the price. Consider the following attributes when purchasing:

The Location. Is it in a demand area? Can you walk to shops, restaurants and other off-site amenities? Does it have major attractions close by? The property on the beach is better than the property a block back. Some resorts feature solitude and a "get away" location with great views of the wilderness. What will suit your lifestyle and desires?

The Design. Was the project a motel conversion or purpose built? Some motel conversions are excellent. Others result in turning a substandard motel into a substandard timeshare. Is the property a mix of Studio, One and Two Bedroom units? Is it attractive and well laid out or just a box? The more attractive the physical layout of the property and the unit floorplans, the better.
The Price. This is last on purpose. You are looking at buying a lifetime possession. If you get the wrong one, the dissatisfaction will be present long after you have forgotten what you paid for it. At current resale prices, I don't think there is any way to lose. Resale timeshares are like antique furniture. They will either hold their value or increase with time. Look at resales as though they will not really cost you money, they will save it. The worst that will happen is that you will have a lifetime of incredible vacations and at the end you will sell it and get all or most of your money back. The longer you own, the better it will be because alternate accommodations (hotels) will only cost more in time due to inflation. The best units in the best season in the best projects have held their value best. Currently, resale prices are generally half of the original developer sale price. In some cases it may be less and in some more. To assure yourself of not paying more than you have to, shop around. Call a title company in the area to find out what the resales in a specific resort are going for. Ask a resale Broker to show you some comparatives. In other words go about it as you would buying a house. Obviously it is not as major a purchase, but time spent getting the right product is absolutely worth it. Remember that you will own it for years. Another trap to avoid is that of buying a cheap timeshare for exchange. Make no mistake. Low quality exchanges for low quality with only rare exceptions.
The Management. First and foremost: Are the units clean? Look for dust, non-working windows, squeaking doors, seedy landscaping, etc. The better maintained the property, the higher the value. Does the appearance please you?

The Fiscal Stability. This is harder to find because it is not visible. Ask for a copy of the Owner's Association budget or financial statements. If this is out of your area of expertise, ask the Owners around the pool. Have there been a lot of special assessments? If there is a professional Property Manager (a CPM or RRP), ask them. Is the project "living beyond its means"? Look for the reserve study. When will the property need a new roof and will the money be in the bank to pay for it? Another non-technical way is to review the last few minutes of the Board of Directors meetings.

The Unit Size. As a general rule, the people who buy the larger units are the happiest. The ability to bring friends and family along on a vacation is not to be overlooked. Two bedroom units offer this possibility. In other cases you may not want this possibility to exist so a smaller unit will be the best selection. Think it over not only for the present, but also for the future. Young singles have bought studio units. They don't work so well after the marriage and the third child.<

The Season. Buy the high season if that is what you wish to consistently use. If the summertime is high season and you are a schoolteacher who can only vacation then, you should go ahead, bite the bullet and buy that season, even though it may be at a premium price. If you have school age children the same applies. Sometimes, the reverse is true. For example, we have many Owners of Southern California beachfront resorts who live in the east and Midwest and have specifically purchased the "off season" because it gets them out of the cold. It works perfectly for them.

Key Point - Since we are offering 80% financing for the purchase of timeshare resales, you can now afford to buy the best property; the one you really want. You will be much happier in the long run if you do. All this may be summed up by one phrase:

Buy Quality!!

Building A PC

5:18 PM Reporter: fendhy
Many people simply go to the retail store and get sold to when it comes to computing equipment. You would be very surprised how easily you can pick up all the core components and assemble yourself or get a friend or family member in the know to do it for you. All the top brand PC manufacturers such as IBM, HP and Fujitsu Siemens offer you pre built PC's, Dell on the other hand will take your order and build to your own style. Off them all Dell will come across more flexible with the specification, however, building your own will not only save you many dollars but make you aware of just how much profit these guys are making.

What are the core components of a PC?

Well let's start with the basics you will need no matter how high or low spec you want the computer:
PC Case – Motherboard – Processor Chip – Fan – Power Supply – Hard Disk Drive – Memory (RAM) – Power Cord – Keyboard & Mouse – Graphics Card (may come on the motherboard) – Sound Card (if you require one). All these components will get you started. Remember build the PC to your own needs. Gaming PC's generally need a good graphics card with 3d capabilities while general office PC's do not need such powerful cards.

Processors:

Intel and AMD are the key players when it comes to processors, Intel offer the Pentium chip or Celeron while AMD have their range such as the AMD Athlon and Sempron. While both companies have their benefits Intel's being that they are the largest selling globally but AMD seem to have the faster processing capabilities. When looking at the processors think sensibly and ask yourself do you really need the latest and greatest or would you notice the difference in point two of a processor e.g. 3GHz compared to 2.8GHz.

Remember keep the cost down, basic components such as the PC case comes in a number of different styles such as Mini Tower, Desktop. Choose what suits you. RAM (memory) will depend on what you plan to do, some games and simulators require large amounts of memory so check before you buy, and the graphics card will also depend on your PC plans. If you are generally using the PC for home and Internet browsing remember to purchase a modem or if you are planning broadband arrange with the installer and get yourself on the waiting list.

In Brief:

Building your very own PC gives you the flexibility that most manufacturers do not. The price is greatly reduced if you can assemble yourself and it will give you a great insight to all the components and key terms in computing. You will be surprised to find that not all is as technical as first seems.

Some quick notes: Do not forget the following: Modem – Make sure you also have enough USB ports for external devices such as a printer or digital camera. Always back your files up such externally on the off chance you have a problem with the Hard Disk Drive and your files are not transferable, something like a usb keyring would be ideal.

Building the PC

Building a PC is not as daunting as it seems. If you have not attempted to do this before it is a good idea to have supervision. Some of the components such as the memory need careful handling due to static electricity. Get an anti static wrist strap to protect the components, they cost very little and could save you a lot of money. There are plenty of cheap books out there to guide you in assembly but you will also find free articles online with diagrams for assembly.

Software:

Hardware is one thing but you also need the software such as the operating system and anti virus software for protection against viruses. Depending on what you want and what you are used to using before you can get free operating system such as Linux. Most of us are used to Microsoft Windows but you will require a licence to use this software. You may also need some office software such as Microsoft Office XP or 2003 standard or Professional edition. The anti virus software is essential and Norton's or McAfee are some of the better known brands. There are also free downloads that will help protect your PC such as Stinger and Ad-Ware.

Contact Center Consultants

5:14 PM Reporter: fendhy
In the Internet-driven world of today, contact centers have become a very resourceful facility for businesses around the world. Big companies are readily putting up contact centers to channel their customer care needs. Contact center consultants specialize in providing vendor-neutral information on various aspects of call centers, like call center software, operating equipment and relevant data systems.

The overall goal of the consultant is to help the clients in improving the performance, thereby increasing customer loyalty and revenue. They also play a major role in reducing operating costs by planning the customer service requirements of the future. In a world of cutthroat competition and the need to put customer satisfaction first, contact center agents have become an indispensable part of the industry.

Contact center consultants are valuable for setting up both small and big contact centers. They advise the firms on using the right technology, latest practices, and complete evaluation of the available resources. These inputs are very important for companies who want to evaluate and consolidate their present centers, and for those who are just starting out.

Experts have realized that there are three factors which are responsible for the success of any contact center. First is people, as mentioned earlier, second is the business processes and third is the technology. All three of them are interrelated and susceptible to change. Contact center consultants thoroughly understand their client's work environment and needs. They are ready to get involved as soon as the firms decide to improve the performance of their companies.

Like every organization, people form the core of these centers. Skilled, self-motivated people are what employers are looking for. Contact center consultants develop and improve the employee's performance and increase the output of the center through agent error reduction, training and development. Counseling desks are regularly set up for stressed-out employees who are then encouraged to give their best.

What type of investor should I be?

5:11 PM Reporter: fendhy
Getting started in the business of investing is much easier than it used to be. So is improving your returns if you already invest. No longer is the field restricted to the wealthy or large financial institutions. More and more these days every day people like mums, dads, students and even children are trying their hand at what used to be the exclusive playground of the rich.

However before delving into what is a very exciting and potentially financially rewarding world you should assess what type of investor you actually want to be. In the thirty years that I have been investing I have seen people who haven't answered this question come and go and lately I've seen it happen with alarming frequency.

Think about it for a second…. have you really thought about what you need to do to start creating wealth for you and your family. If not you need to seriously consider what type of investment style would be best for your position.

Types of investors

The buy and holders of the community put their money into shares that they feel are good value and hold them for expanses of anywhere between 1 and 50 years. This investment style is most suited to people who are long term orientated by nature, not looking for a quick profit and have an eye for good companies. The most famous proponent of such an approach is the world's second richest man, Warren Buffet, so you could say that it isn't such a bad style.

Day trading is the complete opposite of the buy and hold approach and involves individuals who buy and sell shares in a very short period generally within the same day. If you have a lot of time and are prepared to watch market movements very closely then this approach may be for you.

The next thing you need to look at is what sort of analysis you want to conduct on the shares that you are considering. Generally there are two schools of thought, one being fundamental and the other technical. You will always find people pushing one or the other but it makes more sense to incorporate a blend both.

While those with a mathematical or scientific background might look at share price charts employing various technical analysis techniques, ratios, indicators and trends in order to identify which shares they want to look at further.

Fundamentalists tend to look at company profits, management direction, future plans/growth prospects, the economy as a whole and such like company and economic factors.

When you are deciding what type of investor you want to be, one of the most important considerations is your risk threshold. In other words how much you are willing to loose. This again will have an impact on the investment style that you choose and will also have a relationship to the level of returns that you may be seeking.

You should realise that relying wholly on one or the other is not the wisest thing to do. For example a chart that has all the indications that a share is going to be a good choice for the future is useless if the company is going to file for bankruptcy. As I mentioned earlier a blend of the two should be considered.

Investors come in many forms and there is no right or wrong way. Different things work for different people. It is vital that you decide which method best suits you and that you stick to this method.

Telecommunications With Broadband Satellite Internet

5:10 PM Reporter: fendhy
When you have a need for telecommunications, broadband satellite Internet is the only want to go. You need a high-speed connection to use the video equipment properly. If you have a DSL or cable hook up, you might find the telecommuting with video a little lapsed in time. You want real time conferencing without a delay. The newer equipment today for talking face to face with friends, a family member or business associate is important with the cost of transportation today. People want something that can keep them in touch that is reliable and fast.

Broadband satellite Internet is the only way to use video and phone equipment without worrying about delayed and dropped communications. Most of the equipment for Voip and teleconferencing today requires a high-speed Internet connection to work properly. The images and voice are transmitted over the Internet in digital form and converted back to image and voice when the recipient receives it. In order for this to work in real time, you need a fast connection speed. If you are using dial up, cable or DSL, you may see a lapse in communications that can be confusing for those sending and receiving the communication.

Many people are finding out that broadband satellite Internet is the only way to work from home in many areas that do not have DSL or cable available. If the work requires a dedicated phone line, Voip is the way to go for many. Unfortunately, if the person is using a slow connection the call can be delayed, which causes problems if you are a home phone operator. Although, not all calling centers will accept satellite Internet as a way to work, more and more companies are finding out that satellite is more reliable then other means of connecting to the Internet.

Anyone who needs television reception and satellite Internet should consider one of the top rated service providers. The best way to select the best provide is to check connection speeds, download and upload times as well as reliability of the service. If you have access to the southern sky, with no obstacles in direct line of the satellite dish, you can start receiving high-speed Internet as soon as you call and set up an appointment for installation. Even some older computers will come alive with high-speed Internet. You just need the right service and reliability to use the Internet with speed.
Networking is easier with broadband satellite Internet as well. People who network can use the same service as the main computer in the home. This means there is no extra equipment needed to network. You can have more than one computer hooked up to satellite Internet without any problems. If you need something fast and reliable, satellite is the way to achieve speed. Dial up is much to slow for the newer computers and networking, but satellite lets you achieve the speed you need and makes the computer perform the way you intended it to when you bought it.

2 Common E-Mail Problems and What To Do About Them

5:08 PM Reporter: fendhy
When it works well, e-mail can be great. It's hard to beat e-mail for everything from staying in touch with family to requesting information from businesses or other organizations. Want to send the same message to several people? Communicate with someone across the continent? Transmit photos, manuscripts or other information? For speed and efficiency, this virtually instantaneous medium is one of the most convenient features of modern life.

But e-mail is not without problems. If you key in the name of an intended recipient but your message keeps bouncing back, you might not be singing e-mail's praises. Ditto for attachments that won't open or other such nuisances. With just a little patience, though, you can readily overcome most e-mail problems. What follows are 4 common e-mail problems along with solutions for overcoming them.

Problem – Returned Messages

This may be the most frustrating of all e-mail problems. After taking the time to create a message, you click on the "send" button and consider your task accomplished. But the next thing you know, the message pops up in your in-box with a heading that it did not reach its intended recipient.

Solutions

First, take the simple step of checking to see that the address of your recipient has been entered correctly. This may seem obvious, but sometimes the only thing wrong is a misplaced letter, the use of "com" instead of "net", or some similar error. If you know the correct address, this is a straightforward matter of double checking each character. If not, you might need to experiment by sending multiple messages, or by entering alternative addresses with slight variations. Under this approach, you simply keep track of which messages are bounced back and compare them with the overall list of addresses you used. If you sent four variations but only three were returned, you have solved the problem by the process of elimination.

Problem 2 – You Have Lost Your Connection Sometimes a failure to send or receive e-mail can be traced to a lost connection with your Internet service provider.
Sometimes the source of your problem lies with the recipient. If messages to other addresses go through but fail here, try to contact the intended recipient by other means and report the situation. The cause may range from a temporary problem with the recipient's server to a switch to another e-mail provider, to a full in box. In this case, simply waiting may be the best recourse. Or a phone call or other communication may be required on your part to obtain the correct e-mail address. If all your messages are being returned, you may have a connection problem. See below for more details
Solutions

If you see a "failure to connect" or "no response" message or have otherwise determined that you have failed to connect, double check to make certain there are no physical problems.

First, check your cables and connections. If you use a dial-up modem, listen to make sure it produces the normal high-pitched dialing sound. If not, the problem could be a loose connection. Locate the phone cord that runs from the back of your computer to the phone jack, and then make sure that each end is plugged in snugly.

If you will don't hear the expected dialing sound, check to make sure your phone cord is undamaged. If it seems worn, replace it with a new one. Other steps include making certain the line is plugged into the right port, and checking the phone jack by plugging the cord into a different jack. If you hear the dialing sound after any of these steps, you have made a successful connection.

Connection problems may be more common with dial-up modems than with broadband connections, but the latter are also dependent on physical connections. A loose wire or poorly connected cable can easily be problematic. Sometimes a glitch occurs that can be best addressed by repeating portions of the initial set-up process. A simple fix touted by Verizon technical service reps for some DSL (digital subscriber line) customers is to disconnect the three lines from the back of the modem and then reconnect them in a specified order. When this action is taken, the online connection is immediately regained.

If you are online but keep getting bumped off, the lost connection can be the result of an unintended software command. In Outlook Express, for example, you will find the command "Hang up when finished." If the box in front of this phrase is checked, the connection will automatically be severed each time you send or download e-mail. Sometimes a misdirected click of your mouse will cause you to place a check in the box even though you do not realize it. Simply click on the check mark to make it disappear, and the hang-ups will cease.

Writing Business Articles? Follow These 5 Steps To Business Writing Success

6:59 AM Reporter: fendhy
Business articles are a great way to let readers searching the Internet know everything about your new or existing company, and what you can offer them in your unique products and services.

You may be a company that only does business on the Internet, or a Brick & Mortar retail store that would like to increase their online presence via your web site to create additional exposure internationally or worldwide, and increase your customer base.

No matter what type of business approach you take, you will realize that finding a variety of marketing avenues to reach new potential customers is one of the most important components for the growth of your new or well-established business.

When you finally decided to test the waters in article writing because you wanted to add it to your overall marketing plan, I'm sure you will quickly realize that this is a very powerful, yet cost effective way to reach enormous amounts of targeted traffic!

However, in order to reach your desired traffic online, you must not only create value added, informative and creative articles, but you must place them on the Internet for people to find and read. If you're not sure where to start, you can use my 5 simple article-writing steps as a guideline, and create your own writing style and article distribution plan that will work best for you:

Tip #1: Have a complete understanding of the business you're in, the product and services you offer, and don't over sell and underachieve your readers!

I'm surprised how many times I read an article where some company is telling me they will offer you the world, and when you visit their web site, it looks like they actually do offer you the world, a lot of dirt, and the some of that smelly stuff.

Example: Company XYZ expresses that they're #1 in customer service online, and when you provide a link to your site for your readers to view your claim that you wrote in your article, the reader navigates your site, and quickly they notice you have no access to a live customer service chat service, any toll-free numbers to reach a customers service specialist, and all you're providing them is an email address saying that you may get back to them sometime after the summer beach season is over. If you don't offer the best customer service on the Internet or planet, don't even think for a minute to convey that message to your readers.

Tip #2: Don't get business article writing mixed up with a press release!

Writing press releases are a good way to get the message out that your company offers a unique and exclusive product in the market, and you want to introduce it with a bang, or that your business just hired a top executive that will drive your company shares straight up in the stock market. Writing your business article is slightly different, you want to use your article to express your company's best features and benefits offered.

Write about how you can save time and money, or give them a better lifestyle, how about your products/services offer customers that give them complete "Peace-of-Mind". Believe it or not, people do searches to find your products and services to either solve a problem, or possibly to fill a desired need they have. You have to tell them how you're going to solve their problems, and fill their needs, and put it in writing.

Tip #3: Find out who your readers are, and write your article in their language!

Nothing is worse than when I come across an interesting article, and I find out halfway through, there is a completely different language that I don't understand. There are many business writers that have a technical writing background, and when they communicate their message in the article, readers may stumble on your article that is saturated in technical mumbo jumbo that only tech savvy individuals understand

When you start preparing to write you article, think about your people you want to reach, and who will be interested in reading your information, because if you're writing for the non-technical person, and you put a ton of information that the average individual won't understand, your message will definitely be lost and your readers you're trying to attract will move on and find another article that is easier to read.

Tip #4 Once you have written the perfect article, now you want to know how to reach your targeted readers!

You wrote the perfect article, and it is jam packed with your features and benefits. You're telling your potential readers how to reach you, but they won't be able to reach you if you don't take the steps to get your article out there on the web.

The best way to get your company article distributed is through ezine and article distribution directories. You may decide to only submit your articles to a select few of the top article directories that offer a high volume of traffic, but I would suggest that you consider also submitting to a variety of smaller ones, because you never know where they will be picked up from and prominently placed for inbound traffic.

One of the biggest changes happening with article directories is that you will find more niche targeted business content distribution sites that focus on your related themes. Highly consider these sites, because they not only offer you more category options, these sites will eventually be classified as an authority site on your specific business topics.

Tip #5Your Author Bio can make or break the goal of your article!

Believe it or not, but your Author Bio is probably the most important piece to your article puzzle! You worked very hard on your article, and you took the time to make sure your message was clear and to the point, but what I find with many well-written pieces is that they end with a very weak author bio. It's like winning your customer over with a knockout presentation, and then not asking for the sale.

The same goes with your Bio, you should not over sell, but you definitely should let your readers know you're the expert, and that everything you talked about in your article will be explained in more detail once they click through your hyperlinks. If you're talking about a specific product or service and you have several pages with more information, normally most directories will allow you to place up to a maximum of three links including your main index page. Take advantage of this, and always maximize your links that will give you many optimizing opportunities.

These tips are pretty straightforward, and most of you would consider them to be common sense, but even the best article writers sometimes get off track, and may forget some of the fundamentals of writing. It's always good to get some outside tips to get you right back on track. Take my advice and use it as a tool to help you design your own writing style, and before you know it, your article will be flooding the Internet with business flair!

Windows Part 1: Un-Install Programs, Update Windows, Defragment Hard Drives

6:49 AM Reporter: fendhy
This is the first of many more articles to come. I will show you step by step how you can take back control over your windows computer. Just follow my instructions and soon you will be using your computer to work or play again instead of spending hours trying to just keep it running. Best of all, I won't try to sell you anything. I will show you ways to do many things on your computer for free. As with most instructions, please read the whole thing before doing anything.

Lets start with a little house cleaning. Close all programs on your computer. Click on the "START" button in the bottom left corner, select "Settings", then "Control Panel". A new window should have opened up. Double click on "Add/Remove Programs". This will show you most of the programs installed on your computer. Go through the list and if you find any that you installed, but no longer need or use, just un-install them. This will free up disk space. Some un-install programs will ask you to restart your computer. When you are done go ahead and restart again. Windows loves to be restarted. Be careful that you do not un-install programs you are still using and also do not un-install any Windows updates. Basically, if you don't know what it is, don't touch it!

After a clean restart, we will now make sure your computer has the latest updates installed. Click on "START", then on "Windows Update". If you do not have Windows Update in the START menu, open Internet Explorer, then click on Tools, then on Windows Update. Follow instructions on the Microsoft Update website and install all available critical updates for your computer. Restart when prompted to do so. Also, select to automatically check for updates. But do not select to automatically download and install them. You always want to be asked before downloading and installing updates! This can take a long time and just let your computer do it's thing. You can do something else in the meantime. Restart when you are done.

Now that your computer is updated and we've also done a little house cleaning, it is time to de-fragment the hard drive. Windows is not very efficient in where it puts stuff on your hard drive. After a while it gets fragmented. But Windows includes a tool to clean that up. You should do this at least once a week if you use your computer on a daily basis. Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop. A new window will open and show you all hard drive, CR ROM drives and other storage devices connected to your computer. In most cases your main hard drive will be labeled the "C:" drive. If it has any other letter, that's OK too. Right-click on it, then select "Properties". Another window will open. At the bottom to the right click on "disk cleanup", then select all check boxes. If you have off-line web pages, do not select them. If you don't know what they are, you probably have not used that feature and can select it. Then click on "OK" and on "Yes" in the confirmation box. Once this is cleaned up, click on the Tool tab and then on "Defragment now". In the new window, click on Defragment again and let the computer defragment the hard drive. Depending on the size of your hard drive, this can take several hours, especially if it's the first time you do this. Just let it run until it is done. Repeat these steps for all other hard drives you have on your computer.

That's all. You have now deleted un-needed programs, updated Windows and de-fragmented your hard drive. Restart your computer and your computer will be more secure and run better than before. Check back for more articles on how to take back control over your computer.

Make More Money In Affiliate Marketing

6:30 AM Reporter: fendhy
Affiliate marketing benefits both the online business and the affiliate. With affiliate marketing, an online business will have an increase in traffic on the website, and, consequently, generate more sales. With affiliate marketing, an affiliate can earn money just by referring visitors to the website of the online business. Each client visit is converted to an agreed amount for the affiliate. But, does this happen often?

Some affiliates who have been involved in affiliate marketing may answer that the conversion of visits to money does not happen often enough. Are there too many affiliates already? Of course not. The cyberspace has a limitless supply of clients and their numberss are growing every second. There could never be too many affiliates. But there are methods in which one affiliate can earn more money than his counterparts.

These methods have been proven time and again by affiliate marketing experts. Thus, an affiliate must plan to carry out these suggestions so that his income will greatly increase.

1. Study Search Engine Optimization

The target clients of affiliates are those that get inside cyberspace and surf the Internet to find information and products. These target clients can easily do the surfing and the searching by using Search Engines. Therefore, the affiliate's website should find its way in the first results page of a Search Engine.

The job now of the affiliate is to find out how to have his website listed and ranked high by Search Engines and Directories. This is why the affiliate should study search engine optimization.

2. Have Good Content

Affiliate marketing is not just about selling products or services. It is also providing useful information to the target clients. Thus, the affiliate must make sure that the articles found in his website should be information-laden.

If the target clients finds the website useful, they will return to the affiliate's website again and again, until they are convinced enough to proceed to the website of the online business. But if the client finds the affiliate's website is all flash and no substance, they will immediately find another and better website.

3. Promote More Than One Product

A client likes to be given choices. Thus, the affiliate should respond to this need of clients. The website of the affiliate should be offering options to the client. Each option will be described in terms of advantages and disadvantages. When options are given, convincing the client to patronize a certain product or service becomes easier.

4. Give Away Free Products

The wise affiliate should build loyalty from clients by offering freebies. Such freebies may only be information that can be downloaded by the clients.

With all the above suggestions being kept in the mind by the affiliate, his business of marketing will give him greater returns.

8 Tips to Help You Become a Networking Guru!

6:24 AM Reporter: fendhy
Keep in mind that networking is about being bona fide, building trust, and seeing how your relationship can genuinely help others.
1. Always figure out before you even walk into a room, what your specific goals are in attending each networking meeting. This helps you to pick groups or associations that will help you get what you are looking for.

2. Ask open-ended questions during your networking conversations, questions that ask who, what, where, when, and how. Try to avoid questions that require a simple yes or no response. By using this line of questioning you can open us the discussion and show listeners that you are interested.

3. Become a walking resource centre. When you become known as a strong resource, others remember to turn to you for suggestions, ideas, names of other people, etc. This keeps you at their "top of mind".

4. Make sure you have your "elevator speech" prepared and know it like the back of your hand. An elevator speech is the commonly known as the response you would give in the amount of time it would take to reach the tenth floor in an elevator. Always rehearse your spiel and be genuine, so that you don't sound automated when you relay it to someone who asks what you do.

5. Always know what is going on in current affairs, if you don't feel comfortable just rolling into a spiel when you first meet someone, have a back up topic to break the ice until you do.

6. Never just throw your business card at someone the minute you meet them, you must get to know the person and their business as well as explaining your business before you even contemplate a business card exchange. Some people will find you rude, pushy and unprofessional which will in turn reflect badly on your business.

7. Always phone or email your new contacts and let them know that you enjoyed meeting them. If possible mention things that you discussed on a more personal note (i.e. I hope you enjoyed that movie you were going to see that night.) people will come to know you as someone who listens, remembers them and they will form a trust with you.

8. The most important thing to remember is to follow through quickly and efficiently on referrals you are given. When people give you referrals, your actions are a reflection on them. Respect and honor their trust and your referrals will grow exponentially.

What is PHProxy and How Can I Use It?

6:21 AM Reporter: fendhy
PHProxy is a type of proxy website that allows one to gain access to websites that would otherwise be blocked. These PHProxy websites allow for the free and unchallenged entry on to websites such as MySpace.com and Facebook.com without a user name or a registered computer. These PHProxy websites also allow for access into government websites and corporate websites which can cause serious harm or danger to the business and security of the nation and its corporations. These PHProxy websites can come in handy for those who fear security problems with the different websites, but these PHProxy websites are most often used by hackers and those who have been previously denied access to a website.

PHProxy sites are designed to allow the uninterrupted access to other websites. This access can help one in accessing websites that are governmentally blocked in some countries, although America does not have that problem. PHProxy websites are primarily used in hacking or for those who are too young to have access to an adult website. These PHProxy websites are also used to glean information from larger companies to their competitors or smaller companies and vice versa.

The PHProxy websites are great for those who are in foreign countries where the government controls their internet access and servers. For them, the use of a PHProxy website allows for the free viewing of items their government wishes to hide from them. This could be the news from other countries, news from their own country, or views that are differing from what the government wishes to have the public hear and follow. In these countries, control of the media translates into control of the people.

In America, PHProxy websites are typically only used by those individuals who have been banded from a website or who wish to hack into a website with a limited chance of being followed or traced back to their home or computer. This can pose serious problems to those websites that are doing their best to provide adult information while excluding children and for other companies who are seeking to keep their information private. Not many Americans use the PHProxy websites to limit their chances of obtaining a virus or for privacy.

5 Good Reasons a Self-Employed Professional Should Take Vacation

6:20 AM Reporter: fendhy
So you think you're not justified in taking time away from your business because you're self-employed? Here are five great reasons why you should definitely take a vacation:

1. Physical down time
You work hard to grow and maintain your business. Trying to be superhuman will certainly take its toll if you allow it to. Give your body a break by taking in some R&R.

2. Mental down time
Your days are filled with busy, sometimes even hectic, day-to-day activities related to your business. If you don't allow yourself to get away from it once in a while, your peace of mind and general well-being will most definitely suffer. Get out and play. Your mind will thank you!

3. Spend time with loved ones
Your family and friends see you working, working, working, sometimes rarely coming up for air. Both you and they will appreciate spending some quality time together.

4. See the world (or your own back yard)
The important thing is to do something you enjoy, whether it's traveling or, if that's not your cup of tea or you don't have the budget for it, spend time at home. If you also work out of your home, this could be challenging. The key is to stay out of your office during your vacation time. Try getting creative with this. Make your office "off limits" by closing the door and placing a sign on it. Do whatever it takes to keep your mind off working. How about a hobby or a day trip to the beach? Think of what you can do within your budget that's fun. Or do nothing at all!

5. You have a life
Although this one is a no-brainer, it surprises me how many small business owners don't feel as if they deserve time off. There is too much to do, and not enough hours in the day to get it all done. Well, I've got news for you. It's always going to feel that way! Only you have the power to allow yourself time off. Even if you prefer only to take a day here and a day there instead of a week-long (or longer) vacation each year, that's a whole lot better than never taking time off. Trust me, you'll feel better about yourself and your work if you take regular vacation time. You'll be healthier, too!

Cash Advance Company - How To Choose A Cash Advance Lender

6:17 AM Reporter: fendhy
Cash advance companies differ in how soon they deliver money, structure their fees, and process applications. To find a payday loan that best fits your needs, decide what you most want – speedy money, low fees, or an easy application process. Then do a quick scan of lenders to find the best match. In just a few minutes, you can find the perfect cash advance company for you.

Decide What Service You Most Want

When you start looking for a lender, decide what you most want out of a payday lender. If you are looking for speedy cash in a matter of hours, expect to pay higher finance fees. However, if you are willing to wait a little longer or fax in some documentation, you can find lower fees for larger amounts.

By prioritizing your needs, you can focus your search on payday loan lenders that are most relevant. In a few minutes, you can search for the company with the best delivery time, rates, or application process.

The Differences In Lenders

Online payday loan applications make for speedy loans, often processed in a matter of minutes. In general you will get your cash the next business day, but there are companies who process funds in less than an hour. These companies usually have higher fees since they have staff 24 hours a day.

For the easy application process, go with a faxless program. That way you won't have to search for your pay stub or bank records. With databases, lenders are able to verify your application without paperwork.

The lowest rates are usually found with lenders that require additional documentation. By having you fax in copies of your financial information, they reduce the risk of fraud and pass the savings onto you.

Where To Search For Payday Loan Lenders

With the internet, you can search for payday loan lenders from across the country. With so many choices, you can be sure to find the right company no matter where you live.

Start with recommended lenders and look at their website for information on their loan program. Also feel free to email the company if you need more details to make a decision.

Wireless Lan And Laptop Computers

6:15 AM Reporter: fendhy
A small business run from home or on rented space, while it can be extremely profitable, cannot be furnished in the same style as a large-scale company office. Using standard full-size desktop computers in such a set up is impracticable, as it takes up too much space and is too bulky for cramped confines. To deal with such a situation, desknotes or transportables may just hold the key.

Desknotes are systems that can be alternately used as a standard desktop PC, but also offers portability into the bargain. Desknotes have the same power levels as a desktop PC and occupy much less room. Moreover, to keep expenses to a minimum, it is possible to install a LAN amongst the desknotes, where only one laptop need be connected to the Internet and access is shared to all the laptops connected to the network. This is also true for the devices connected to the central laptop; through LAN, all the laptops can use the same device. Thus, for small offices with three or more laptops, LAN (Local Area Network) is surely a boon.

LANs usually span a building or a small group of buildings. Connecting one LAN with many others through telephone lines and radio waves is called WAN (Wide Area Network). A Local Area Network that uses radio waves to communicate is called WLAN (Wireless Land Area Network). There are several advantages to WLANs. One is its flexibility. Radio waves can pass through walls of nearly any surface, and also do not require miles and miles of cables, thus offering a clutter-free work atmosphere. Wireless LAN can be almost invisible!

Another advantage is that WLANs are extremely easy to use. Most laptops are built in with WLAN capability. So all you need to do is plug in and make sure you have a wireless LAN card. WLANs are very tough. If one base becomes disconnected, it is possible to use another laptop as a base and can be shifted physically into the range of another WLAN. Prices are very low these days for WLAN, and it is no wonder the choice for home networks.

However, as nothing is perfect in this world, WLAN does carry a few disadvantages. Anyone can operate a laptop near a WLAN and hack into the stored wireless traffic. This makes safety an issue due to the loss of privacy. While radio waves can pass through almost any surface, too many obstacles in the path such as buildings can degrade the transmission. Another drawback is the data transfer speed. As many laptops share the same bandwidth, data transfer speeds are significantly lower in a WLAN. In addition to this, wireless data rates fall according to signal strength or interference.

Wireless LAN is convenient where mobility is required, and is the only choice in old buildings where cables cannot be installed. Companies usually provide wired connections for fixed offices, and wireless LAN for those users who have no fixed location. In the end, WLAN should be installed only after taking into account all factors regarding your office or home set up.

You must first have a website before you can apply for a Google Adsense account and start profiting from Google AdSense. You are more likely to be rejected if you use a free domain, so invest in your own domain. And make sure that your website makes sense; that may sound obvious, but if you are running a website that is disorganized with random content scattered all over the place, you will not be viewed as professional and will most likely be rejected.

Once your site has been accepted, Google will give you code to paste on your site, thus enabling them to start placing ads on your site that are relevant to the content of your site. For example, if your website is about creating scrapbooks, Google might place ads on your site dealing with places to purchase scrapbook materials.

Now, what about making money? Google makes money by advertising. So, by placing ads on your site, you are helping them to advertise by providing them with a place to display their ads. Every time a visitor to your site clicks on one of the ads that Google has placed on your site, you receive a certain percent of the money. It's a win/win situation. Google AdSense allows you to view your account and earnings information at any time, and once a month you will receive a check for the amount of money you earned.

Of course, these are just the Google AdSense basics, and more detailed information can be found at www.google.com/adsense.

So, if you're dedicated to the website you operate, why not make an extra profit from it as well? Or, maybe you're looking for a way to make some extra cash on the side and are interested in a subject enough to create a website for it. Either way, consider these Google AdSense basics and check into opening a Google AdSense account of your own.

How To Make Money Using Remote Site Syndication (RSS)

7:57 PM Reporter: fendhy
You may already know that RSS stands for Remote Site Syndication, but what does that really mean to you and more importantly, how can you use RSS to help you make more money?

Simply put, RSS feeds are written in XML, a special mark up language much like html. That means that they have mechanisms included that identify structures in a document. The structures define the content and how that content will be displayed within that document. RSS is what makes big news websites possible: RSS files are used to create a data feed which will deliver headlines, links or virtually any other piece of information to a channel viewer application, commonly called a news reader.

These readers are subscribed to certain RSS feeds and constantly monitor them, alerting the user when every any new information has been added to the feed. So, how can you use this to your advantage as an internet marketer? Here are the most popular ways to integrate RSS feeds into your marketing effort: you can use RSS to replace any email marketing you are currently doing, take advantage of RSS feeds to drive traffic to your blog or sales site or create your own RSS feed so your messages and information show up on thousands of websites, blogs and desktops online.

Although many marketing gurus will claim that email marketing isn't dead, with the advent of increasing spam complaints and filters coupled with the threat of viruses originating from an email, more and more people are leery of even opening your email. So even if you have a large email list, the likelihood of your emails being opened is becoming increasingly slim.

With RSS, your messages won't ever get filtered and have a much higher chance of actually being read vs. a typical email. And your marketing results can only be better when people actually read your message. You can even incorporate autoresponders in conjunction with RSS.

Including RSS feeds on your content site or blog allows you to add fully dynamic theme-related content to your web pages making your site or blog very popular with the search engines. The constantly updated content is exactly what the search engines crave and helps increase your search engine ranking, driving more traffic to your page.

Probably the best way to use RSS to help your online marketing efforts is to create your own RSS feed. This way your information will be published on any website that is using the RSS feed you are supplying that information to. There's even automated software to submit your RSS feeds to the various directories that supply the feeds to marketers using them as described above.

RSS is still a relatively unknown method of driving traffic to websites, but is becoming more popular every day. As an internet marketer, this is a great opportunity to take advantage of this new technology before the rest of the online gurus jump on the bandwagon.

10 Must Haves for A Successful E-Newsletter

7:52 PM Reporter: fendhy
E-Newsletters, commonly called 'E-Zines', are a must have for any business in today's aggressive economy. E-Newsletters, done correctly, are a creative, non-aggressive method of reaching your current clients and building your prospect base at little or no cost. They not only provide useful information to subscribers on a consistent basis but they are a valuable marketing tool that allows you to enter their lives regularly, to get your name, and products or services, in front of them without the heavy sell.

The following pages contain a list of 'must haves' from the beginning to the end of your newsletter, and everything in between.

First and foremost, your E-Newsletter must have a:

1. SUBJECT LINE

Your newsletter's headline, otherwise known as the subject of the e-mail, is responsible for 50-75% of its success. Other than whom the e-mail is from, it is what your reader sees first. Without a successful headline, your e-mail is destined for the trash can and you've missed a golden opportunity to reach clients and prospects with your message.

Writing a good headline is tricky and something people spend years learning and practicing. That being said, there are a few keys to a successful headline that I'd like to share with you.

● Appeal to your reader's self interest.
Provide a benefit to your reader and make it personal to your audience of clients and prospects. Example: "10 Ways To Increase Your Portfolio Earnings Overnight." This type of headline might work for a financial investment firm, or an accountant. A headline can be tailored to any industry and what your readers are interested in.

● Make it Newsworthy
Headlines using the words 'new', 'now', 'finally', 'announcing', and 'latest' give the reader a sense of newsworthiness. "New Soil Conditioner Increases Plant Life By 10%." This headline is both newsworthy and it appeals to the reader's self interest-assuming that the newsletter is going to clients of a nursery, florist and the like and not to an automotive repair shop!

● Appeal to the reader's emotions.
Fear, Pride, Insecurity, Curiosity, Love, Happiness, Boredom, Laziness, and
Altruism are among many of the emotions that you can use to motivate your reader to open your newsletter. "How To Ask Your Boss For A Raise," would be good headline for a staffing company. It appeals to the reader's curiosity. Another curiosity driven headline might be "10 Questions You Should Never Ask A Prospective Client."

One last thing to remember about Headlines: make them believable. Nothing gets deleted faster than an outrageous and unbelievable headline.

2. VOLUME NUMBER AND A DATE.

It may seem obvious, but one thing that is consistently overlooked in E-Newsletter publication is the volume number and date. Every newsletter that you send should have a volume number and a date to be consistent. Consistency is key to establishing yourself and your company as a reliable and credible source of information and the kind of company that your customers will return to time and again.

Additionally, by providing a consistent publication date, and volume, you give your readers a method to archive and/or search when they're hunting through old issues for the amazing content that you've supplied them.

By organizing your newsletters by volume and date, you also make it easier to track each issue's effectiveness.

3. THEME

Each newsletter that you put out to the world should have a consistent theme running throughout. Regardless if you have one article or ten, they should be linked with your theme-and your theme should be referenced in the headline.

A doctor's office might run an issue with the theme of fighting the flu just before flu season. The newsletter might contain articles pertaining to it like diet, supplementation, and inoculations etc. Similarly, they could offer a theme on allergies in early spring.

A restaurant might highlight specific ingredients, time saving tips in the kitchen, or upcoming seasons and holidays. The articles could reference menu items or recipes that they use as a marketing tie in.

An Auto repair shop might address tune ups in one issue and preparing for summer vacations in the next. They could talk about braking-how to brake, different types of brakes, when to replace brakes, common problems with brakes etc…

You're getting the picture. CPA firms, printers, transportation companies, every industry has a specific client population with specific needs and interests. If you have a new product, how that product integrates into your customer's lives could be a theme-say a commercial construction company provides installation of a new type of roofing--there's the theme for the newsletter. Themes are easy to come by; the trick is sticking to them.

4. INFORMATION

Your newsletter must contain useful information. Content Is Key! Even if your newsletter contains an editorial piece, you need to give your readers something valuable.

We're a nation hungry for information. Non-fiction consistently outsells fiction in the bookstores and ease of information is in high demand. As far as information goes-Nothing Is Better Than Free, Helpful Information Delivered To You On A Consistent Basis!

According to an article recently published by the Newsletter & Electronic Publishers Association www.newsletters.org -"Publishers need high-value content to reach readers and advertisers. ……editorial quality is just as important for a free newsletter as it is for a subscription newsletter. ……advises publishers to talk with their user base at all times, survey readers and know their needs.
This quotation ties in to the next E-Newsletter necessity:

5. An Option for Reader Feedback

An option for reader feedback in a newsletter is a good way to build your community and to add content to the publication. It not only lets you know what the readers are responding to in your newsletter but it encourages reader participation and people, whether they admit it or not, like to see their name in print.

A simple feedback form occasionally included in the newsletter or a more consistent 'Dear Abby' type column where readers ask questions and you (as the expert) answer them, is the easiest way to include this feature into your publication.

6. AN OFFER

Besides endearing your clients and prospects to you and your company, the main purpose of an E-Newsletter is to build your business or in other words, SELL.

Don't let a single issue go by without some kind of offer; a click through to your web site, a coupon, a new product for sale in your store or on your website, an inside sale.

Tie the offer in to your theme and with a good headline, you have a sure hit! Let's go back to our very first headline "10 Ways To Increase Your Portfolio Overnight." Let's assume that the newsletter is from a team of financial advisors.

The broad theme is increasing your portfolio; let's assume that one of the methods of increasing it is to invest in pharmaceuticals. The offer might be a seminar/webinar/teleseminar on investing in pharmaceuticals. The options are endless to present this product.

Basic clicks through to your website for more information, a 'click here to register' type of option, or a registration form right in the newsletter are just some of the possibilities.

7. LINK TO YOUR WEBSITE

Again, the reason for your newsletter is to sell your product or service. If you don't have at least one link to your website then you're not giving the newsletter the chance to do its job.

If you don't have a website-GET ONE!

No matter what your business, a web presence is a necessity for your business to grow and a courtesy to your clients. From basic business information like hours and staff information to newsletter archives and products, a website gives your customers a place to go when they're not with you. To put it simply, a web presence expands and embraces your customer community and it provides one more way to build your current client base.

Links to your website in your newsletter provide not only a tool to sell but they're also great tools for realizing the effectiveness of your website. They're measurable.

8. VIRAL MARKETING

Viral marketing is a term used by marketing specialists which simply means encouraging current customers and prospects to share your message with their colleagues and friends.

Viral Marketing is FREE FOR YOU. A simple message consistently included in each and every newsletter, preferably in the same place each time, that encourages recipients to forward your newsletter to friends, family, and colleagues is all you need. The bonus is that there is an implied endorsement of your services to recipients of your forwarded newsletter.

9. AN OPT-OUT

While an E-Newsletter is a great source for building your opt-in database, you MUST provide your recipients an option to opt-out. No one likes to be trapped into receiving an unwanted e-mail.

A simple "Click here to unsubscribe" will suffice.

Be sure to make good on all opt-out requests to avoid angering and alienating clients and prospects.

10. SIGNATURE

An E-Newsletter signature isn't your signed name at the bottom of each publication, though it can be. In direct mail, a signature is your company information and a possible disclaimer listed at the bottom of the page. Think 'footer', if you're familiar with word processing. A signature could look something like this:

All material on this site is provided for information only and may not be construed as medical advice or instruction. No action should be taken based solely on the contents of this information; instead, readers should consult appropriate health professionals on any matter relating to their health and well-being.

7 Reasons Why Do We Blog

7:43 PM Reporter: fendhy
Did you ever ask yourself, why do you blog, or why do you have to? Nowadays on Internet there are more than 70 millions blogs, and it is interesting what purposes do they pursue?

Until recently, to make money online was not easy for usual people like we. 4-5 years ago it was difficult to earn something on the Net until WEB 2.0 era had came. The only way which could help us in that time was website creating, it's promotion, and selling of advertising places.

Today everything changed. Blog fever amplifies day by day, and everyone, who heard something about blogs, wants to have it. So, why? Lets try to make some supervisions.

1. Glory. The vanity was, is and will be always. Whether is necessary to be surprised that people wish to be famous? Look at how many amazing people did you know since you have enjoyed blogging. Seth Godin, Steve Pavlina, Darren Rowse… Did you ever know them if not blogs?

How to Apply for Jobs Online

7:41 PM Reporter: fendhy
Using an Internet resource to apply for jobs online is a great way to get leads you might otherwise have missed. The ease of the Internet makes scanning the job market, applying for positions, and providing résumés quick and easy. Gone are the days of pounding the pavement looking for the perfect job!

Responding to an Ad

Once you find an ad that sounds interesting, ask yourself, "Do my skills, qualifications, and experience make me a good candidate for this position?" If the answer is yes, you are ready to respond to the ad.

Chances are many other job seekers found the same advertisement equally as appealing and will vie for the position, too. For that reason, filling out the online application in such a way as to grab the employer's attention is a must. Don't just fill in requested responses; give your responses depth. Remember, the application is in essence a job interview. You want to present yourself as intelligent, bright, and just the right person for the position.

Advice that sounds so simple and basic, it barely seems worth mentioning, yet it is a critical first-step through the door of opportunity. You'd be surprised the number of online applicants who rush through the process, and send the application on its way without going over it a second time. Why would any employer consider hiring someone that didn't take the time to be sure their application was filled out properly

Many employers prefer that job applicants use their company application. Still, you want to make your application unique, to avoid being swallowed up in a growing pile of other applications.

Filling out the Online Application

The National Association of Colleges and Employers recently conducted a survey, posing the question to employers, "How does one make an electronic application outstanding?" At the top of the list was "follow directions…be careful to enter the correct data in the correct field."

The second piece of advice was to tailor the application information to fit the position, instead of copy and pasting text from a generic resume. Use key words, buzz words, and industry jargon – taking cues from the verbiage in the job advertisement as your model.

This is a very important aspect of filling out the online application, because employers do a keyword search when looking for people to fill specific employment positions.

Be specific when asked to describe past employment duties. Instead of saying, "I counted cash drawers," say "I counted 7 cash drawers daily." Instead of "oversaw secretary pool," say "oversaw a secretary pool consisting of 6 full-time and 3 part-time employees."

What about the Comments Field?

Complete all fields, even if they aren't required. If the application doesn't include a job skills-inventory section, create one. This could go in the comments section.

Another use for the comments section is to demonstrate your knowledge of the company or industry. Research it as thoroughly as possible to show your earnest interest in the position for which you are applying.

Remember, when you apply for jobs online through employee/employer matchmaking resources such as istaffsolution.com, the online application will be the employer's first impression of you. Make sure it is a good one!

And above all else, proof read the application before sending it on its way. Do a spell check from your word processor before copying and pasting text in the appropriate field. Also check for grammatical errors.

Do Not Get Above Your Business

7:34 PM Reporter: fendhy
Young men after they get through their business training, or apprenticeship, instead of pursuing their avocation and rising in their business, will often lie about doing nothing. They say; "I have learned my business, but I am not going to be a hireling; what is the object of learning my trade or profession, unless I establish myself?'"

"Have you capital to start with?"

"No, but I am going to have it."

"How are you going to get it?"

"I will tell you confidentially; I have a wealthy old aunt, and she will die pretty soon; but if she does not, I expect to find some rich old man who will lend me a few thousands to give me a start. If I only get the money to start with I will do well."

There is no greater mistake than when a young man believes he will succeed with borrowed money. Why? Because every man's experience coincides with that of Mr. Astor, who said, "it was more difficult for him to accumulate his first thousand dollars, than all the succeeding millions that made up his colossal fortune." Money is good for nothing unless you know the value of it by experience. Give a boy twenty thousand dollars and put him in business, and the chances are that he will lose every dollar of it before he is a year older. Like buying a ticket in the lottery; and drawing a prize, it is "easy come, easy go."

He does not know the value of it; nothing is worth anything, unless it costs effort. Without self-denial and economy; patience and perseverance, and commencing with capital which you have not earned, you are not sure to succeed in accumulating. Young men, instead of "waiting for dead men's shoes," should be up and doing, for there is no class of persons who are so unaccommodating in regard to dying as these rich old people, and it is fortunate for the expectant heirs that it is so.

Nine out of ten of the rich men of our country to-day, started out in life as poor boys, with determined wills, industry, perseverance, economy and good habits. They went on gradually, made their own money and saved it; and this is the best way to acquire a fortune. Stephen Girard started life as a poor cabin boy, and died worth nine million dollars. A.T.

Stewart was a poor Irish boy; and he paid taxes on a million and a half dollars of income, per year. John Jacob Astor was a poor farmer boy, and died worth twenty millions. Cornelius Vanderbilt began life rowing a boat from Staten Island to New York; he presented our government with a steamship worth a million of dollars, and died worth fifty million.
"There is no royal road to learning," says the proverb, and I may say it is equally true, "there is no royal road to wealth." But I think there is a royal road to both. The road to learning is a royal one; the road that enables the student to expand his intellect and add every day to his stock of knowledge, until, in the pleasant process of intellectual growth, he is able to solve the most profound problems, to count the stars, to analyze every atom of the globe, and to measure the firmament this is a regal highway, and it is the only road worth traveling.

The young heir soon finds out what that means; he has the finest dresses and playthings; he is crammed with sugar candies and almost "killed with kindness," and he passes from school to school, petted and flattered. He becomes arrogant and self-conceited, abuses his teachers, and carries everything with a high hand. He knows nothing of the real value of money, having never earned any; but he knows all about the "golden spoon" business.

So in regard to wealth. Go on in confidence, study the rules, and above all things, study human nature; for "the proper study of mankind is man," and you will find that while expanding the intellect and the muscles, your enlarged experience will enable you every day to accumulate more and more principal, which will increase itself by interest and otherwise, until you arrive at a state of independence. You will find, as a general thing, that the poor boys get rich and the rich boys get poor. For instance, a rich man at his decease, leaves a large estate to his family. His eldest sons, who have helped him earn his
fortune, know by experience the value of money; and they take their inheritance and add to it. The separate portions of the young children are placed at interest, and the little fellows are patted on the head, and told a dozen times a day, "you are rich; you will never have to work, you can always have whatever you wish, for you were born with a golden spoon in your mouth."

At college, he invites his poor fellow-students to his room, where he "wines and dines" them. He is cajoled and caressed, and called a glorious good follow, because he is so lavish of his money. He gives his game suppers, drives his fast horses, invites his chums to fetes and parties, determined to
have lots of "good times." He spends the night in frolics and debauchery, and leads off his companions with the familiar song, "we won't go home till morning." He gets them to join him in pulling down signs, taking gates from their hinges and throwing them into back yards and horse-ponds. If the police arrest them, he knocks them down, is taken to the lockup, and joyfully foots the bills.

"Ah! my boys," he cries, "what is the use of being rich, if you can't enjoy yourself?"

He might more truly say, "if you can't make a fool of yourself;" but he is "fast," hates slow things, and doesn't "see it." Young men loaded down with other people's money are almost sure to lose all they inherit, and they acquire all sorts of bad habits which, in the majority of cases, ruin them in health, purse and character. In this country, one generation follows another, and the poor of to-day are rich in the next generation, or the third. Their experience leads them on, and they become rich, and they leave vast riches to their young children. These children, having been reared in luxury, are inexperienced and get poor; and after long experience another generation comes on and gathers up riches again in turn. And thus "history repeats itself," and happy is he who by listening to the experience of others avoids the rocks and shoals on which so many have been wrecked.

"In England, the business makes the man." If a man in that country is a mechanic or working-man, he is not recognized as a gentleman. On the occasion of my first appearance before Queen Victoria, the Duke of Wellington asked me what sphere in life General Tom Thumb's parents were in.

"His father is a carpenter," I replied.

"Oh! I had heard he was a gentleman," was the response of His Grace.

In this Republican country, the man makes the business. No matter whether he is a blacksmith, a shoemaker, a farmer, banker or lawyer, so long as his business is legitimate, he may be a gentleman. So any "legitimate" business is a double blessing it helps the man engaged in it, and also helps others. The Farmer supports his own family, but he also benefits the merchant or mechanic who needs the products of his farm. The tailor not only makes a living by his trade, but he also benefits the farmer, the clergyman and others who cannot make their own clothing. But all these classes often may be gentlemen.

The great ambition should be to excel all others engaged in the same occupation.

The college-student who was about graduating, said to an old lawyer:

"I have not yet decided which profession I will follow. Is your profession full?"

"The basement is much crowded, but there is plenty of room up-stairs," was the witty and truthful reply.

No profession, trade, or calling, is overcrowded in the upper story. Wherever you find the most honest and intelligent merchant or banker, or the best lawyer, the best doctor, the best clergyman, the best shoemaker, carpenter, or anything else, that man is most sought for, and has always enough to do. As a nation, Americans are too superficial-- they are striving to get rich quickly, and do not generally do their business as substantially and thoroughly as they should, but whoever excels all others in his own line, if his habits are good and his integrity undoubted, cannot fail to secure abundant patronage, and the wealth that naturally follows. Let your motto then always be "Excelsior," for by living up to it there is no such word as fail.
